We meet the third Monday of the month in each
other's homes, from 2-4 PM, taking time off
during the summer.
May 15 – Our annual
group discussion! This year's book is Michael
Crichton's State of Fear. Read it
and join us at the home of Margaret Smith
to critique Crichton's efforts.

23 at the Souper Supper was a great
event with 12 superb soups and lots of scrumptious
cookies to sample by 45 members and friends
at the First Baptist Church in Castro Valley.
The warm Fireside Room there was a bright
and welcome change from the gloom and chill
of the weather we've been having.
At a drawing Ursula Batz
and Glenna Zolling each won an Entertainment
Book.
We had a very interesting program by Paul
Buchanan offering selections from his recently
published book, "Racial Relations in
the U.S., a Chronology, 1896-2005". Paul
is the son of Pat and Duncan Buchanan.
This was followed by personal
episodes of racial discrimination experienced
by Karl Debro, his wife and children. These
episodes are common to people of color and
usually go unnoticed by others, so they were
a real eye-opener for many of those present.
Karl is the son of our former longtime member,
Anita Debro, and is presently an English teacher
and head of the AVID program at San Leandro
High School.
